Social Media. To join or not to join. It's a battle we all face, some less and some more. If you love art, beauty, and community, you may find yourself torn, like me. It can be a tool for so much good in our world, if used well. Full of inspiration and expansion for the mind, it often shows us what we can aspire to, what beauty is beyond our current environment, and what ways we can develop and grow. Along with these gifts, social channels can also distract... incredibly. How do we know what's best?Read More
LET'S TALK GROCERY SHOPPING
Grocery shopping for yourself and your family can be daunting these days. In America, we have allowed our grocery stores to be filled with "foods" that cause more damage than health and ironically increased the cost of the basic clean and nourishing foods our great-grandparents ate on the daily. If you're a regular Merfleur reader, I can only assume you're also a believer of "organic" foods, by which I simply mean foods that have not been genetically modified and/or treated in any fashion. This is how all foods use to be. Now, we have to be savvy shoppers to protect the health of ourselves and those we love...Read More

We live in a world that is incredibly tech-savy, innovative, and exciting, but along with the many pros of our century an equally challenging list of cons has arisen. It's the world we live in and a reality we must understand. I'm not here to doomsday you, but instead, provide a very easy quick way to combat these stressors on our bodies and minds. Subtle or loud the deep longing for perfection in our lives is something we cannot escape. Whether we fight it by denouncing it loudly and “rebelling” or embracing it and pursuing it with all we have, it affects us at the core. It’s really nothing new, though there’s continual talk about the effects of social media and well… media in general on our mindsets (which yes, in some ways is true) this is something that’s been around since the dawn of time. The desire to have a perfect feed on Instagram or the most stylish kids or the nicest car all stem from a much more internal longing. Perfection comes from that large part of our soul that wants to be better, to meet our full potential, to feel complete, fulfilled, accomplished. It’s the need to be accepted, seen as valuable, and feel whole.

Ending a long day or savoring a celebration with friends, craft cocktails are always a lovely way to enjoy creative combinations of fresh herbs, fruits, tonics, bitters, and well-distilled alcohols. Although I do enjoy the occasional night out on the town, I must admit I far prefer homemade concoctions. The art of pairing ingredients and crafting memorable flavors is intriguing and enjoyable.Read More
Deep restful sleep. The ever evasive necessity. Am I the only one that lies awake unable to quiet my mind?
Over the years, due to my tendency to become inspired and energized at all hours of the night, I developed little habits and practices to improve my night-time routine. These techniques made an incredible difference on how quickly and how deeply I slept, that is, when I did them...
I know I'm not the only one fighting Instagram and Netflix to get to bed. Friends, if you're similar, I encourage you to pause and reflect with me. We both know this has to end. We see the effect less sleep is having on our minds and bodies and pay the toll each morning. Well, today, I'm at least calling myself out. I want to get back to my helpful habits and spend the rest of my evenings this year relaxing and restoring. How about you? Would you like to feel refreshed and maybe not need that cup of coffee quite so desperately tomorrow morning? Haha, well... let's do it!Read More
Cooking. It's not a loved practice in our culture. We appreciate the look of food. We love to eat food. We may even admire chefs and see food as art, buuut when it comes to doing it ourselves... real, thoughtful, multiple-step cooking is not a favorite pastime or even a priority. Add in the obsession with retaining extremely busy and fast-paced schedules and you have the perfect recipe for a life filled with chemically-processed, pre-made, and health-damaging food. Obviously, the current and upcoming generations are already experiencing the consequences of this lifestyle, whether they realize it or not, so what can we do about it?Read More
Summer is here and, if you're like me, your skin may need a little extra boost. There's many options calling for your attention these days, but most are a bit pricey and, honestly, not that effective. So today, I thought I'd share a favorite that's basically free and easy to maintain. Let's chat about the age-old practice of dry brushing.Read More
Let's get a little more scientific and holistic today and talk about your health. Before we begin, in a past share, I discussed my personal beliefs around bio-individuality and the care we must all take to find what works for our bodies. I encourage you to read it first, it's not your typical take on food and health.
Now that we're all on the same page, let's chat about another core element of your unique makeup, your blood type. That's right! Your blood type is a direct result of your birth parents and their ancestors' blood types combining. It's part of your genetic makeup and a key ingredient to your health.Read More
Living by the sea is a privilege, a true gift. I don't take it for granted, yet at times I can forget to visit. Days will go by without me stopping to casually observe the pelicans as they gracefully fly along the rough cliff line or watch the waves roll in one after another. The smell of the salty air or the feeling of the cool breeze across my face always grounds me, reminding me of the world's grandeur and the finite nature of that day's troubles. I plan to make the most of it in these next few days by spending every day of the holiday soaking in the sun's golden rays and savoring the gentle sound of the ocean's movement.Read More
