The small but lovely detail of rosy lips can truly add to your glow.
As summer starts to approach, I naturally begin to increase my lip balm usage and water intake. With extra sun, wind, and sea exposure during the summer season, it's easy for all of our skin to get weary and dry. The lips are no exception.
Most lip balms are full of toxins or just plain junk that does nothing to nourish or restore the skin. I often see mineral oil or petroleum ingredients, as well as hydrogenated soy and other hydrogenated vegetable oils (all of which you want to avoid, as much as possible), filling the label. I can share more about this at a later date, but trust me these oils are rancid and destructive to your skin and general health.
I personally like to have a little sun protection, so I tend towards lips balms with a high amount of shea butter. This beautiful butter naturally offers 4 SPF for the skin. I also look for nourishing oils, like olive, coconut, and castor oil when selecting a new balm.
An aspect of lip care, that I just recently began incorporating into my routine is lip polishing. A very gentle form of exfoliating, this helps to remove any build up of dry skin and infuse it with hydrating and healing oils.
My two current go-to's for lip care are Evan Healy's lip balm and French Girl Organic's lip polish. Both of these companies demonstrate incredible care and transparency around their ingredients. Their dedication to providing quality products with effective results is admirable.
You all know if you've been following along, that I am a very devoted fan of Evan Healy's skin care line. Her production and sourcing is immaculate and therefore incredibly trustworthy. I look forward to trying all of her products at some point.
French Girl Organics is a newer line to me. I enjoyed reading up on the creator, Kristeen's journey into the skin care world and appreciate her devotion to recreating products inspired by her French heritage. She began sharing her creations on Etsy before being discovered by large brands, like Anthropologie. I believe her expansive following is due to the beautiful combination of darling branding and quality ingredient sourcing. You can read more about her story at her Etsy shop here. + Evan Healy's Whipped Shea Butter for Lips
+ French Girl Organic's Rose Lip Polish
+ Primally Pure Lip Balm, I looooove the Peppermint flavor
+ Weleda Everon Lip Balm, my go-to if Evan Healy's is not near
+ Lip Balm - apply as often as you feel the need
Apply 2-3 swipes across your lips upon waking, a few times throughout the day, and right before bed.
Sidenote: if your lips feel very dry, pair the lip balm with a few sips of water to make sure your staying hydrated :*
+ Lip Polish - use 1-2x a week or as needed
Swipe you finger lightly on top of the polish to lightly cover the surface of your fingertip. You do not need much at all. Press gently on lips and slowly massage the polish into your upper and lower lips. You'll notice the nourishing oil and exfoliant grit may start to separate. Don't worry, just keep gently massaging for about 30 seconds. Once done, it should leave your lips feeling smooth and glowing with a rosy hue.
Hopefully, you've found this light read resourceful and helpful as you learn to care for your sweet little lips. As you give these treats a try, feel free to reach out with any questions!
Let's keep our rosy pout polished and protected together!
À votre santé!
