In school I was taught to look at the foundations of the physical body as an indicator of health, while I agree these are critical to consider when assessing symptoms, I couldn’t escape the feeling that there was a deeper piece missing. I could address digestion, blood sugar imbalance, hydration, etc. and see improvements, but not full recovery and more often than not see relapse. It seemed as though I was at the right door with the right tools, but it was locked. Why?
I needed the key.
The key, the prerequisite, the required element for this door to unlock and allow me, and perhaps you, through was the necessity of being in a state of that would allow for healing to occur. A state I refer to as authentic calm.
Time and time again this term floated into my mind. I’ve finally embraced it and called it my own as it best captures my intent. I define authentic calm as a healing state of body, mind and spirit. It is ultimately the place of balance and rest in the here and now that can persist through any and all circumstances. Instead of suppression or overexertion, it invites us into the space of genuine equilibrium. A place where we account for our breath, thoughts and life energy or purpose as the foundational elements of health. When these are in place perfection within diet, lifestyle, and environment is not as weighty. The body and our personhood desires to return to its balanced state/ It simply needs the space and the tools.
This place of genuine rest throughout every aspect of your being cannot be acquired only through physical change or only through thought change or dare I say only through spiritual change. We are the whole makeup of all these things, therefore they all must shift to match our authentic personhood – how we are created to live and breathe and express ourselves on this earth.
How do we cultivate an authentic calm within ourselves? Well, we first need to be ready to dive deep by becoming aware of our tendencies and habitual behaviors, opening up to both receive and release, honoring our origin, acknowledging our Creator and making space in our bodies to cultivate a healing state by balancing our autonomic nervous system.
So what does this look like IRL? I believe it looks like using the tools we’ve already been given on this planet. I will speak specifically to the Authentic Calm approach for the body. It includes 3 stages: Identify, Soften and Shift that weave in supportive tools I personally use and love, like flower remedies, holistic nutrition, functional lab testing, breathwork, energy work and more. Together we walk through each stage teaching you how to cultivate an authentic calm within your body. We uncover the state of your involuntary nervous system and support your return to balance through identifying stressors. We soften with breathwork, guided reflection, flower remedies and Soften sessions. Finally, we shift your identified unique stressors found in your lifestyle, environment and relationships. The result? A state of genuine physical rest that allows for the natural healing flow and function of your body.
Our world is full of beautiful tools and approaches like the above to enact authentic calm, so why aren’t we seeing whole vibrant healthy people around us? I have many theories, but the most consistent reason I see with clients and even in my own life is overwhelm. I recommend selecting a few tools that resonate with you and address each aspect of your personhood, make these your go-tos for moving forward. If this is still anxiety-inducing, bring in a friend, partner or expert to support you.
Uncovering and honoring the incredible creation that you are is a lifelong journey – a true art form. One I believe we all must cultivate to find true balance, authentic calm.
