Good morning! I have a few traditions that I try to honor every day, if possible. One of these traditions is my morning tea. A very simple concoction, it does not take long to make and the benefits are incredible.
My morning tea consists of organic Meyer lemon juice, local raw honey and hot water. Simple, right? This liquid helps the body to complete it's nightly refresh and begin the day well. The warmth and properties of the lemon tea set a liver cleanse in motion, which if repeated a few times a week can lead to clear skin, efficient removal of body waste, and even weight loss. I also love it because I strongly believe in hydrating your body first thing every morning and this tea does just that!
+ 1/4 or quarter Organic Meyer Lemon
+ 1 teaspoon Local Raw Honey
+ Hot, but drinkable Water
+ 1-2 teaspoons Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar, optional*
Fill your tea kettle with water and place on the stove to heat. Slice 1/4 of your fresh lemon and either hand-squeeze or use a small press like the one pictured above—I got mine here!—to extract the juice into a mug.
Spoon out the honey and place the spoon in the mug with the lemon juice. Feel free to do more than a teaspoon. I rarely measure, so my honey portion can vary depending on how tart I want the tea to be in the moment. I find my honey at my local farmer's market fro Asana Foods. Honey from local bees assists with fighting allergies and infections, so I try to make a point of buying honey from nearby bee farmers.
Option - if you feel the sickies coming on, add a teaspoon or two of ACV to strengthen your immune system and intensify the cleanse.
Once the water is warm but drinkable, pour it over the spoonful of honey in the mug. Stir gently and sip slowly over the next 15 minutes.
I try to drink this tea after having a few large glasses of alkaline mineral water (Carlsbad Alkaline is my go-to) and prior to eating breakfast, if possible. I wait at least 15 minutes before eating to give my body time to absorb the tea and cleanse my organs before asking it to start the task of digesting. Use the time to sit quietly and read or listen to music. Allow it to start your day with a peaceful moment.
